About the Organization: Pak Mission Society (PMS) is a national relief and development organization established in 2004 and registered on 13 February 2008 under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 at the Office of the Provincial Registrar Joint Stock Companies & Societies, Peshawar, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.Pak Mission Society was initiated by a group of Christian professionals whose collective vision was to bring hope and love by responding to human suffering and disasters through emergency relief efforts and delivering long-term rehabilitation and development programs.Pak Mission Society was established to reach and serve unreached and underprivileged communities regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, class, religion, and social background.The organization aims to catalyse holistic transformation and development through relationships based on dignity and respect and the transparent, fair, rights-based allocation of relief and development resources.Since its inception, Pak Mission Society (PMS) has focused on working with communities in Pakistan’s most difficult-to-access and impoverished areas such as District Kohistan and District Shangla in the north of Pakistan, District Sanghar in Sindh, District Rajanpur in Punjab, District Peshawar in KP and District Lasbella in Balochistan.

 Job Summary:

 The Health & Hygiene Promoter will play a key role in improving the health and hygiene practices of communities through awareness campaigns, educational sessions, and community engagement. The position involves promoting safe and clean water, adequate sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices, reducing water and sanitation borne/related disease risks, and encouraging behavioural change. The Health & Hygiene Promoter will work closely with community members, local authorities, and other stakeholders to develop and implement strategies for better hygiene and public health, contributing to the overall well-being of the target population.

Job Responsibilities:

Community Mobilization & Education:

  • Conduct health and hygiene promotion sessions and awareness campaigns in schools, households, and public spaces.
  • Facilitate community discussions and participatory sessions on water safety/protection and sanitation issues.
  • Promote behavioural changes related to health and hygiene, proper sanitation, and water usage/quality among community members.
  • Organize demonstrations on handwashing especially critical times, safe and clean drinking water, safe waste disposal, use/importance of latrines and the impact of open defecation/open dumping of excreta.

Training & Capacity Building:

  • Train community volunteers, health committees, and WASH advocates on hygiene practices and disease prevention.
  • Develop and deliver training modules on hygiene promotion related to inclusive WASH.
  • Assist in forming and strengthening local health committees.

Monitoring & Evaluation:

  • Monitor the adoption of hygiene practices and provide feedback to community members.
  • Conduct baseline and follow-up surveys to assess hygiene practices, water sanitation, and health-related behaviours.
  • Document and report the outcomes of hygiene promotion activities, challenges, and community feedback.

Material Development:

 Assist in the development of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials (posters, leaflets, banners)/BCC for hygiene promotion campaigns.

  • Collaborate with community artists and local stakeholders to create culturally appropriate and visually appealing materials.

Collaboration & Coordination:

  •  Work closely with WASH engineers and public health officers to ensure integration of hygiene promotion into all aspects of WASH programming.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, schools, health facilities, and NGOs to ensure the effectiveness of hygiene interventions.
  • Engage with community leaders and local influencers to promote WASH activities and campaigns.

  Job Specifications:

  1. A.    Education:
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Community Development, Social Sciences or Environmental sciences or related field).
  1. B.     Languages:
  • Urdu
  • Candidates with Sindhi language will be given preferred.
  1. C.    Work Experience:
  •  Minimum 2 years of experience in community health, hygiene promotion, or WASH programs.

          D.    Skills and Competencies:

  Skills

  • Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with vulnerable and rural communities.
  • Ability to develop culturally sensitive educational materials.
  • Knowledge of water, sanitation, and hygiene practices.
  • Monitoring and reporting skills.
  • Proficiency in local languages Sindhi
