Position Title:               Psychologist

Location:                      Buner District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Duration:                     2 months (short-term, emergency response)

Working Days:             5–6 days per week, depending on emergency needs

Reports to:                   Project Coordinator – Flood Response

 

Background

Foundation for Ageing and Inclusive Development (FAID) is implementing an emergency flood response in Buner District, focusing on the most vulnerable groups, including older persons, persons with disabilities, women, and children. As part of this response, FAID seeks to provide psychosocial support services to individuals and families affected by floods, addressing trauma, stress, and mental health challenges arising from the disaster.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychological assessments of affected individuals, with a focus on older people, women, children, and persons with disabilities.
  • Provide individual and group counselling sessions for flood-affected communities, addressing trauma, grief, and stress.
  • Deliver Psychological First Aid (PFA) to individuals in distress.
  • Conduct awareness sessions on stress management, coping strategies, and mental well-being.
  • Develop referral pathways for cases requiring specialized psychiatric or medical support.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to FAID field staff on basic psychosocial support.
  • Maintain records, prepare progress reports, and document case studies highlighting psychosocial needs and interventions.
  • Helping older people, women, children and persons with disabilities develop coping mechanisms and strategies to adapt to the challenges posed by the flood and its aftermath.
  • Implementing programs that promote mental wellbeing within the community such as support groups and counselling sessions.
  • Ensure all services are delivered in a culturally sensitive, age-inclusive, and gender-responsive manner.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Ensure that programme activities prevent harm and protect communities, especially children, women, and older people.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns or incidents through FAID’s internal reporting mechanisms.
  • Complete mandatory safeguarding training and adhere to HR vetting requirements.
  • Apply a survivor-centered approach in responding to safeguarding concerns and make appropriate referrals to local services.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of professional experience in providing psychosocial support, preferably in humanitarian or emergency settings.
  • Knowledge of Psychological First Aid (PFA) and community-based psychosocial support approaches.
  • Experience working with vulnerable groups (older persons, women, children, and persons with disabilities) is strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in Pashto and Urdu (English is an asset).
  • Ability to work under pressure, in remote settings, and in coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
