Role Overview:
The Health & Hygiene Officer will be responsible for promoting health, hygiene, and sanitation practices among flood-affected communities in Diamer and Ghizer. The officer will work closely with community members, local authorities, and project teams to prevent disease outbreaks, ensure safe water and sanitation practices, and promote overall health and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct community hygiene promotion sessions on handwashing, personal hygiene, safe food handling, water treatment, and menstrual hygiene management.
  2. Support the implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of sanitation facilities, including latrines, handwashing stations, and safe water points.
  3. Train community volunteers, local leaders, and project staff on hygiene and sanitation best practices.
  4. Monitor hygiene and sanitation activities in the field, including proper use of facilities and compliance with health standards.
  5. Conduct rapid assessments to identify health and hygiene risks, including disease outbreaks, and report findings to the project team.
  6. Support emergency WASH interventions and ensure timely delivery of hygiene kits and awareness materials to affected communities.
  7. Engage with community leaders, Village Organizations, and local authorities to enhance participation in hygiene and sanitation programs.
  8. Collect, analyze, and report data on hygiene practices, sanitation coverage, and health-related observations for donor reporting and program improvement.
  9. Promote accountability and community feedback mechanisms regarding hygiene and sanitation services.
  10. Perform any other duties assigned by the Health & Hygiene or Project Manager.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in public health, Environmental Health, Social Work, or a related field.
  2. Minimum 2–3 years of experience in health, hygiene, or WASH interventions, preferably in emergency or humanitarian contexts.
  3. Knowledge of hygiene, sanitation, and public health practices in disaster-affected or rural communities.
  4. Strong community mobilization and interpersonal communication skills.
  5. Ability to work in challenging field conditions and travel extensively within project areas.
  6. Familiarity with local languages and cultural practices in Diamer and Ghizer is an advantage.

Strong reporting, monitoring, and documentation skills.
