Consultancy Objective:

The National Consultant for National media fellowship, NCSW is expected to co-lead the process of designing, coordinating, facilitating the National media fellowship with media professionals on issues of GBV and child marriage in the country. The consultant is expected to lead the coordination with mid-senior level journalist and media houses.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Act as the ex-officio member of the technical committee and work in close coordination with the Technical Committee and the government partner, SPO and UNFPA to ensure the quality and engagement of the key media professionals.  
  • Take lead in engagement with leading media houses, newspapers, press clubs for securing relevant and promising participation.
  • Support the development of the training materials, handouts, presentations etc.
  • Conduct background research to inform the readings, case studies and statistics to be used for media fellowship.
  • Technically review the selection criteria and ensure endorsement from the technical committee.
  • Maintain coordination with all stakeholders for the national media fellowship
  • Support the selection of the participants in collaboration with the National GBV Expert Media Fellowship.
  • Lead facilitation thematic sessions related to media, story telling and other related topics
  • Identify mentors for the fellowship in consultation with National GBV Expert Media Fellowship and develop their TORs and ensure the required support for the fellows.
  • Support fellows with their project ideas and mentor them where fellows face challenges.
  • Link fellows with important experts and resources.
  • Lead in designing the refresher training and ensure participation of mentors.
  • Develop case studies, innovative technical material to facilitate experiential learning process.
  • Use local and regional best practices and guidelines to inform the process.
  • Ensure the quality of the report’s/features/ tele-reports/ social media reports by the participants.
  • Will be responsible for supervising and leading the report process for trainings, refresher and project report.

Key Deliverables:

  1. Formation of technical committee 
  2. Update the fellowship curriculum 
  3. Ensure relevant nominations from leading media houses, newspapers, press clubs for securing relevant and promising participation
  4. Support the shortlisting process in line with the criteria agreed
  5. Mentors are selected and mentoring process is completed. 
  6. Ensure proper documentation of the technical committee meetings, fellowship, and the end of project report. 
  7. Ensure submission of meeting minutes of technical committee, selection committee, workshop reports and any other 
  8. Guest speakers identified for different thematic areas
  9. Concept note and TORs developed for the alumni group of fellowship
  10. Responsible for writing project report
  11. Media fellowship workshop, 3 days refresher and National Media fellowship showcasing completed

Consultancy Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in journalism, media studies, communication, or a related field.
  • At least 8-15 years of experience in media engagement, journalism, or media advocacy.
  • Prior experience in working with fellows, journalists, or advocacy initiatives is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of national and provincial media landscapes and key stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing media strategies and training materials on GBV and Child Marriages
  • Ability to work independently as a consultant and manage multiple deliverables.
  • Available to work 3 days a week, with flexibility for in-person or virtual engagements.
